Christmas Eve Hat

I make a new hat nearly every year, but I honestly didn't think I would do so this year. It's been a while since I have purchased yarn, but we found ourselves at Hobby Lobby to get a frame for some of Captain's art, and the yarn called to me. This wasn't the first thing made with the yarn, but the leg warmers definitely inspired this hat.

Slouchier style

Christmas Eve Pom Hat

Hook: G
Yarn: Soft Secret Shale; Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly color 01128 (light blue)
(Both are light "3" weight yarn)

I started with the Shale and let the light blue be the highlights. You don't even have to do the stripes if you only want to use one color, but keep the number of rounds.

Chain 60, slip stitch to first chain making a circle. Make sure chain is not twisted.

Round 1: Chain 2, dc around, slip stitch to second chain.
Round 2: Chain 2, * fpdc, hdc * around circle, fpdc, slip stitch to second chain.
Round 3-8: Change colors. Repeat Round 2.
Round 9: Repeat Round 2.
Round 10-18: Repeat round 1

(18 Rounds give you a beanie style hat. You can add more rows if you want it slouchy, but the slouchier it is the smaller the pom needs to be. The bigger poms can pull the hat off your head.  The slouchy blue and gray version has 23 rows, but I had to make the pom much smaller than what you see originally in the picutres.)

Fasten off yarn with long tail. Seam tail through the top of the final row so that it can be gathered together, pulled tight so no hole remains, and then tied off.

Create Pompom, sew it to the top of the hat.

This pattern has not been tested by anyone, and written off of memory of what I did. If you come up with issues or questions please feel free to drop a line so I can make corrections or clarifications as needed. Thank you friends.
